This hold was one of the best I have made ever. An that is the absolute truth – I’m not paid to enter this. I was looking for something that would make the hard bed at a family tree member’s household more comfortable while we were there on vacation. My husband & I have an assortment of physical issues between us and a week on a hard bed would have been too painful. I read so many of the reviews on various bed pads that I was thinking it would be hopeless – untill I found this one. I also wanted something more organic & less toxic since this family tree has minor latex alergies which is nothing to fool around with – but this pad gave them no problem at all! When it arrives I warned them that it could stink & need expression out before we make it there. First – it arrived ahead of schedule & I received emails informing me of the process. Then I was told the smell was minimal & dissipated quickly – very different from every other assess I had read. When we got there I couldn’t believe how comfortable it was! I kept thinking what a brilliant hold this was!

    Verified Hold(What’s this?)
This assess is from: Queen Size 3 Inch Thick, 4 Pound Density Visco Supple Memory Foam Mattress Pad Bed Topper. Made in the USA (Misc.)
I’m a very cautious buyer – I spent around 2 weeks researching brands and different mattress toppers as I was on a college student’s budget. This is what I found:

    Densities of Toppers
2 lb/ft density – For side sleepers, you’d want firmer mattresses so lower densities are better
3-4 lb/ft density – For back sleepers, you’d want softer mattresses so you can sink. If you want a softer take a nap, a 3 pound density is fine. If you want a fitful slumber of mutant marshmallows enveloping you, go for the 4 pound.

    Thickness of Toppers
2″ – It all depends on weight. If you’re a tiny Asian female or one of those tall and really skinny guys who weigh like 130-ish pounds, 2 inches is fine.
3″ – If you’re like a college student who weighs around 160-ish, this is for you.
4″ – For people who are muscular or particularly delight in cake.

    Brand Comparisons:
Amazon won’t let people post links but there’s a site called SleepLikeTheDead that shows really excellent brand comparisons. Do a bit of Googling and you’ll find it.

    Miscellaneous Information
Even though the topper seems to be like an inch small of the mattress you’re putting it on, it really doesn’t make a difference. I thought it would look obvious that the topper was shorter than the mattress but it wasn’t.
Also, you have to let it expand before you use it or else it won’t be able to expand to its maximum size. Some do weeks, others do a couple of days, but I let mine expand for like 5 hours and I leisurely it with a ruler and it got to its 3″ thickness so I chose it was ready.

The last site shows fantastic reviews of the topper. I’m a a back sleeper so I had to get a moderately thick topper and I happen to prefer my sleeps to be analogous to being devoured by pillows so I got a 4 pound density. This specific topper is the HIGHEST rated 3″, 4lb/ft density mattress so this seemed like a perfect fit.

I was still a bit nervous on my scale as $150 is a huge amount for a student but my first night on it removed all doubts. It’s been several weeks now and I’ve noticed no smell except for the stink of my own laziness as I refuse to get up for classes. It is fantastic. You will feel like you’re floating on a pool, except as a replacement for of water, there’s memory foam.

I highly recommend it if you’re a back sleeper of moderate weight.

    UPDATE Aug 2, 2014

It’s been close to a year since we got this topper. We are still very pleased with it. You’d have to point a gun to my head to give it up.

    “BOTTOM LINE” FIRST
The product arrived in two days (Prime membership). There was MINIMAL odor to it. It expanded quickly to full height. I slept on it the first night and had the best night’s take a nap I have had in many years. I will update this in 6 months to report on how the product holds up. You might find my “tale” below to help in your choice making.

    BACKGROUND
We bought our first memory foam bed (queen size) about 5-6 years ago from a local furniture store. It was low end, but we loved it, and immediately chose to use it for a guest bed and upgrade to a king size. We bought the same bed, or so we thought, until it arrived. The store had substituted the model. The manager assured us the product we got was the same or better. Well, it was NOT. We’ve been making due with it, but I finally attributed my restless, sleepless nights and morning back pain to the cheapo mattress. I chose to get something better, but this time I was going to do my homework.

    WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT DENSITY
    2 – 2.5
The second (king size) bed must have been a 2 or 2.5 lb density AT BEST. That clarifies why we didn’t like it. At that low density, the foam doesn’t have the pliability that you want in a memory foam mattress, and it won’t last.

    3
The top layer (most vital factor in determining the amount of “give”) of the original queen size bed we bought was a 3 lb density foam. We thought is was comfortable, but the fact is, a 3lb density will not hold up over time. Luckily it only serves as a guest bed and gets small use (we have no friends).

    4 – 5.3
A 4 lb density will hold up better over time and is more supple. A 5.3 lb density has even more of that doughy feel to it and greater likelihood of lasting a long time. There are higher densities, but they are expensive, and you might not even find them to be comfortable. In fact, some people might prefer the very cheapest quality bed. Everyone is different.

The foam underneath the memory foam layers are there to provide a firm foundation.

    WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT THICKNESS
Every manufacturer plays around with thickness (and density) of the top layer(s). They place the higher density foam at the top and the lower density (cheapest) under it. Some companies won’t even tell you the density (that’s a warning sign to stay away) and others will promote layering as a “better” way. I suspect the real reason is to cut costs on their end.

2 to 3 inches of the memory foam is sufficient for most people. A large self would probably want at least 4 inches of the top most layer. Obviously, the deeper the foam, the deeper the potential to sink and mold to your body. Not deep enough or too deep are both terrible situations.

    WHAT I DECIDED
After reading countless other recommendations, I chose I wanted to take a nap on a layer of 3 inch, 4 lb density foam. As a replacement for of ordering a whole new bed, which would have cost $600 to $700, I ordered this mattress topper. It sits directly on top of the mattress, covered by a waterproof mattress pad. This is a MUST for memory foam. I suspect some of the terrible reviews are from people who didn’t do this.
