Solved most all of our leaks, September 13, 2012

I have been using this brand of diaper doublers for close to 2 years now and recommend it to anyone who had a problem with spongy diapers at night. The pad augment my son’s overnight diaper (which we generally size up from his daytime diaper to accomodate him and the pad) as, before we had these boosters, we couldn’t make it through the night without a very wet, and very messy child. I personally prefer that the doubler has no adhesive because adhesive generally acts as a barrier to liquid and the point of the diaper doubler is to absorb excess liquid but still pass urine to the regular diaper lining (effectively charitable you double the amount of lining)… adhesive would (in my opinion) ruin the effectiveness so I am pleased with the product just the way it is!

Also, I am always paranoid that I will run out of diaper booster pads because they are never on the shelf at Toys-R-Us. So, although more expensive here (by about $4) it is still a relief to know I get get my overnight diaper pads in more house than just one.

One last reommendation for a parent of a spongy baby – we noticed that our leaks dramatically decreased when we went from on one-piece pajama to a two piece pajama (with a waist band). My son tends to take a nap with his butt up in the air so it helps to have another barrier to keep it all inside.

Update: 9/2014 – my original assess is below. I have used these booster pads since 2010 for 3 kids. This is still perhaps my most recommended baby product ever. If you have a child with night time leaks this product will amaze you!

    ——–Original Assess——————————————————————————————————————–

These diaper boosters mean the difference between nighttime leaks and my kids waking up dry in the morning. I have tried several brands of overnight diapers, and while they work pretty well lonely, I would have to change my son at 5am or he would leak. This wasn’t ideal because he would sometimes wake up and not go back to take a nap as I changed him. A supporter recommended these diaper boosters, and when placed in an overnight diaper, both kids stopped nighttime leaks completely! This product is truly a lifesaver as I live in an apartment without a washing machine so it is hard for me to wash sheets every night if the kids leak.

The diaper boosters are a long thick cotton-like pad. The diaper boosters look a bit like a female’s maxi pad, but without the plastic coating underneath, which allows the booster to fill to capacity with urine and then pass the rest of the urine through it and onto the diaper. A supporter questioned me if a maxi pad could just do the same thing as this product (I know, I know…you are probably wondering who would want to house a maxi pad in a diaper anyhow, but since people have brought this up to me when I have recommended this product, I will address it). A maxi pad would not work the same way because it has a plastic coating underneath, so the urine could not flow into the diaper, which would result in leaks. Also, even the thickest maxi pads are not meant to absorb a large amount of liquid, like the diaper booster is. Over again, I know that it is silly that I mention this, but I have recommended this product to so many moms that this question really comes up!

I do also recommend using them differently for boys than girls. We fold them and house them in the front of the diaper for our boy but for our daughter we do not fold them but house them flat in the diaper, a bit more centered in the diaper. You don’t have to fold them doubled up in the front for a boy if you don’t reckon you need it. Just be sure that for a boy that you house the booster more towards the front of the diaper.

For the reasons above, I give these diaper boosters a glowing assess. Pair them with a nighttime diaper and really stop overnight leaks!

Excellent for stomach sleepers / heavy wetters, January 16, 2013

    Verified Hold(What’s this?)
I tried double diapering and adding a maxi pad to a night time diaper and it still leaked. This is a fantastic product but I had to modify it a bit to eliminate leaks:

For my stomach-sleeping son, I folded it in half so it only covered his ‘parts’ (when it ran the full length – he developed diaper rash on his butt since this does NOT have a moisture wicking cover to it). Make sure the fold is towards the top (2 ends facing down) but BELOW everywhere you adhere the diaper waist tabs. If there is any gap at the waist or if this pad is under everywhere you tighten the waist- it will still leak – A LOT.

One improvement would be to have a least one side have a moisture wicking cover (like a maxi pad) since this just keeps moisture right against the skin, thus can promote diaper rash.
